YARN workshop - Beirut December 14 - 16
Overall aim of the event
To help the 8 YARN groups to review and analyze their data, identify their main conclusions, and develop an effective strategy for dissemination of the materials.
The main objectives for this meeting
• To review progress on implementation of the 8 national plans
• To review the raw data gathered so far
• To share feedback
• To provide a shared framework to analyze and write up the findings
• To identify what we have learnt so far about the issue of 'identity' in the region
• To identify gaps in our knowledge that still need to be filled
• To agree a plan to write up, and disseminate the findings

Update on process..
• Explaining the process and what want to achieve
• Go over the main steps we will take over two days
• Move into sub-groups with mentors
• Mentors meet their groups and review progress

Presentations from 8 YARN groups: 5 mins each
What are the aims of your research
• What methods did you use
• What obstacles you faced following plan
• What data shows - emerging analyses
• Who might be interested in these findings and why?
• What more information you want to collect

Issues: Translating research into policy messages
Mentors work with groups on policy messages

Skills: Using multi-media for effective dissemination

TUESDAY
Skills: How to manage / analyze quantitative data
Plenary on dealing with quantitative data

Skills: How to manage / analyze qualitative data
Focus groups, semi-structured interviews - again drawing on examples from the research so far
LUNCH
Youth voice across the region
All YARN members will take part in a focus group session as part of the Issam Fares Institute research.  This also helps build skills to run such groups - and to consolidate learning about managing qualitative data.

Wednesday (half day)

Writing up research
It will be helpful if each national YARN team uses the same format for writing up their research - so that we can support each team, and also make comparisons between groups. The mentors will agree a standard template and explain how to use bullet points to note the main points and build a research narrative
